Dehradun/Salt (Almora): Political activity in Uttarakhand has started gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. Discussions are particularly intense around the Salt Assembly constituency in Almora district, where speculation is growing that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may once again place its trust in current MLA Mahesh Jeena.

After the demise of former MLA Surendra Singh Jeena, Mahesh Jeena entered active politics through the by-election and has since remained engaged in public outreach and organizational activities across the constituency. BJP workers claim that he has prioritized development issues such as roads, healthcare, electricity, drinking water, and education.
The Salt Assembly seat has long been considered a BJP stronghold. Since 2007, the constituency has remained under BJP control, while the Jeena family continues to hold significant influence in the region. Keeping local equations and voter support in mind, the party is reportedly working on its strategy for the upcoming elections.
Political observers believe Mahesh Jeena has successfully carried forward the political legacy of Surendra Singh Jeena while establishing his own identity among the people. At the same time, the BJP is preparing its broader strategy with the aim of returning to power for a third consecutive term in 2027.
Meanwhile, speculation is also circulating on social media and in political circles regarding possible ticket changes for some BJP legislators. Sources suggest that the party is conducting internal surveys across various constituencies, though such reports are generally kept confidential.
Against this backdrop, the biggest question surrounding the Salt Assembly seat remains whether the BJP will once again field Mahesh Jeena based on his perceived winnability and local support, or opt for a new face depending on organizational surveys and changing political equations. For now, Mahesh Jeena is widely viewed as one of the BJP’s strongest contenders from the constituency.
