Dehradun: The Dehradun Municipal Corporation organised Clean Air Day under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), with a focus on raising awareness among students and citizens about air pollution and measures to improve air quality.
Various awareness activities were organised in schools across the city in collaboration with different institutions. These included painting competitions, quizzes, poster-making, street plays, puppet shows and awareness sessions.
Students were educated about major air pollutants such as PM10 and PM2.5, their impact on human health and practical measures to reduce air pollution.
On the occasion, students who performed exceptionally well in the competitions and awareness activities were honoured and felicitated by Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal. The students were encouraged to play an active role as responsible citizens in protecting clean air and the environment.
During the programme, Municipal Corporation officials also highlighted Dehradun’s achievement of securing 12th rank at the national level under the National Clean Air Programme. The achievement reflects the civic body’s ongoing efforts towards improving air quality, controlling pollution and promoting environmental protection.
Officials further informed that Ward No. 05, Dhoran, has been selected as the best-performing ward at the state level. The selection was based on the effective implementation of several initiatives, including road and pathway construction and paving, development of green spaces and establishment of a transfer station for waste management.
These initiatives have contributed to improved cleanliness, increased greenery and better waste management in the area.
Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal said the objective of Clean Air Day is to encourage students and citizens to avoid burning waste in the open, practise waste segregation at source, use vehicles responsibly, promote plantation and development of green spaces, and adopt environment-friendly practices.
The Dehradun Municipal Corporation said its efforts towards improving air quality and strengthening sanitation will continue. The civic body will also ensure greater participation of citizens, schools, NGOs and social organisations under the collective resolve of “Clean Air – Healthy Dehradun.”
