Dehradun: Dehradun Police has arrested six alleged drug peddlers in a joint operation by Rajpur Police and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), busting a suspected network involved in the supply of MDMA in the city.
Police recovered 44.61 grams of MDMA, estimated to be worth around ₹4.5 lakh, from the accused. An Ignis car and 12 polythene packets were also seized during the operation.
The arrests were made late on September 22 at two separate locations following a checking drive against drug trafficking.
Four of the accused were arrested near Shahanshai Resort on Old Mussoorie Road after police received information about the suspected movement of drugs. They were allegedly found carrying 27.12 grams of MDMA.
The accused have been identified as Vedant Chauhan (21), Rachit Sharma (21), Shrikant Mamgai (22) and Chirag Rastogi (24).
In a separate operation near the Sahastradhara Helipad, police arrested Abhishek Thapa (21) and Vaibhav Mamgai (21) and allegedly recovered another 17.49 grams of MDMA from their possession.
Police have registered separate cases against all six accused at Rajpur Police Station under Sections 8/21/29/60 of the NDPS Act.
Alleged link to Delhi-based network
During questioning, police said the accused admitted to working as alleged peddlers for a Delhi-based person identified as Siddharth alias Sidhu.
According to the police, Sidhu or his associates allegedly supplied MDMA to the accused for distribution in Dehradun. Police also said some of the accused travelled to Delhi, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh to collect drugs.
Investigators suspect that the accused were primarily targeting college students, allegedly selling MDMA at high prices.
Students pursuing technical courses
Police said all six arrested accused are residents of Dehradun and were pursuing technical courses at different educational institutions in Dehradun and other states.
According to investigators, the accused came from financially stable families and allegedly entered the drug trade to meet the expenses of their expensive lifestyles and personal interests.
The arrests come as part of intensified action against drug trafficking under the state government’s “Drug-Free Devbhoomi” campaign. The Dehradun SSP has directed police teams to identify drug suppliers and peddlers and take strict action against them.
