Action taken against Hotel Atithi on Library Road for construction allegedly in violation of approved building plans
Dehradun, October 8: The Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has intensified its crackdown on unauthorised commercial construction in Mussoorie, sealing an illegally constructed basement and 12 rooms at Hotel Atithi on Library Road.

According to the authority, an inspection found that the construction undertaken by Devendra Agarwal at the hotel had allegedly violated the approved building plan and applicable construction regulations. Following the inspection, an MDDA team sealed the basement and 12 rooms on the premises.
MDDA Warns Against Unauthorised Construction
The authority reiterated that construction carried out without approval or in violation of sanctioned building plans would not be permitted within its jurisdiction.
MDDA highlighted the particular importance of enforcing building regulations in Mussoorie, a sensitive hill town where unplanned commercial construction can put additional pressure on traffic, parking, drainage systems, the environment and civic infrastructure.
The authority said it was monitoring construction activities and taking action wherever violations were identified. Property owners and commercial establishment operators have been urged to obtain the necessary building-plan approvals before starting construction.
Strict Action Against Violations: MDDA Vice-Chairman
MDDA Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari said Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had issued clear directions to ensure planned development and effective enforcement of building regulations across Uttarakhand.
He said unauthorised commercial construction in an important tourist destination such as Mussoorie would not be tolerated and that the authority was keeping a close watch on such activities.
Tiwari added that the objective was not to harass property owners but to ensure the planned and safe development of the city. He urged building owners to comply with approved plans and prescribed construction standards.
Enforcement Drive to Continue
MDDA Secretary Mohan Singh Berniya said cases involving unauthorised construction and deviations from approved building plans were being treated seriously. Construction activities in Mussoorie are being monitored regularly, and action will be taken in accordance with applicable rules wherever violations are found.
The authority has reiterated that its enforcement drive against illegal construction will continue.
