The political debate over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttarakhand is intensifying. While the Congress has been raising questions over the SIR process and the names included in the voter list, Dehradun Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal has hit back at the allegations, urging the party to present facts and documents to support its claims.

Thapliyal responded to questions raised by the Congress regarding various aspects of the SIR process, Form-6 and documents related to electoral rolls. He said that a process as important as voter-list revision should be discussed on the basis of facts and records rather than mere allegations.
The Mayor also sought clarity from the Congress on its concerns regarding the Election Commission’s process, saying that if the party is alleging any irregularity or discrepancy, it should place supporting documents and evidence before the public.
Meanwhile, the Congress has continued to question the role of the Election Commission and the process of electoral-roll revision under SIR. Congress workers in Dehradun have also staged a protest against the Chief Election Commissioner, registering their objections over the issue.
With the political exchanges intensifying, SIR has now emerged as a significant political issue in Uttarakhand beyond its administrative aspect. While the Congress is raising concerns over transparency and voters’ rights, the BJP is responding to the allegations by focusing on the procedure and documentary evidence.
