Dehradun: Uttarakhand will launch a special campaign to update and verify the electoral roll from October 8, following directions from the Election Commission of India. Under the drive, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct special camps at all 12,543 polling stations across the state from October 8 to 10.
The campaign will focus on verification of voters included in the ASDD list under the Pre-SIR and SIR processes, with eligible voters identified and assisted in getting their names included in the electoral roll.
Chief Electoral Officer Dr B.V.R.C. Purushottam, while briefing the media at the Secretariat Media Centre, said that special camps would be organised from October 8 to 10, followed by a door-to-door campaign by BLOs from October 12 to 20, 2026.
Existing and Previous Electoral Rolls to Be Matched
During the campaign, BLOs will compare the current electoral roll with the electoral roll that existed before the Pre-SIR exercise. Voters whose names appeared in the earlier roll but are missing from the current list will be identified for verification.
BLOs will subsequently visit the homes of such voters to establish their current status. Those found eligible will be assisted in completing Form-6 for inclusion in the electoral roll.
New Voters Turning 18 Also Covered
The campaign will also focus on young citizens becoming eligible to vote. BLOs will ensure that eligible citizens who attained the age of 18 years by October 1, 2026 are assisted in submitting Form-6 for voter registration.
The exercise is aimed at ensuring that eligible first-time voters are not left out of the electoral roll.
Political Parties to Be Involved in Verification Process
The Chief Electoral Officer has directed all districts to involve Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of recognised political parties as well as members of Booth Awareness Groups in the campaign.
Lists prepared by BLOs will be shared with the respective political parties’ Booth Level Agents. At the final stage, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will also share booth-wise lists with political party representatives, providing another opportunity to identify eligible voters who may have been left out.
SIR-2026 Process Underway in Uttarakhand
The special campaign is part of the ongoing SIR-2026 electoral roll exercise in Uttarakhand. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has made available electoral roll-related information and resources concerning ASD voters and other aspects of the revision process.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr Vijay Kumar Jogdande and Assistant Chief Electoral Officer Mastu Das were also present during the press conference.
The campaign will primarily focus on verifying eligible voters, facilitating the inclusion of omitted names and strengthening the accuracy of the electoral roll across the state.
