A large number of Congress leaders and workers on Wednesday reached the SSP office in protest against allegedly offensive and misleading content circulated on social media by a page named ‘Vasooli Abhiyan Morcha’.
Led by Congress state secretary Swati Negi, the delegation met Dehradun Rural Superintendent of Police Jaya Baluni and submitted a memorandum seeking an investigation and legal action against those allegedly operating the social media page.
Swati Negi alleged that objectionable comments and misleading content targeting her political and social reputation had been circulated on social media. She said political criticism was part of democratic discourse, but targeting a woman’s character, family and social standing could not be justified.
“Political differences are acceptable, and we are ready to answer questions and criticism, but no one has the right to question my character,” Negi said.
She further alleged that the content also sought to affect the reputation of Pratapnagar MLA Vikram Singh Negi and former Congress state president Karan Mahara, whom she described as father figures.
According to Negi, a complaint had earlier been submitted to the police on December 28, 2025, against the operator of the ‘Vasooli Abhiyan Morcha’ page. She alleged that another video targeting the Congress party and its leaders was subsequently posted on February 28, 2026.

Congress workers demanded that the police conduct a fair investigation, identify the persons operating the concerned social media account and take appropriate action under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology laws, if the allegations are found to be substantiated.
Congress leaders said freedom of expression cannot be used as a shield for alleged defamation, character assassination or attempts to damage an individual’s family reputation.
They warned that if action is not taken at the earliest, the party would launch a democratic protest.
Those present included Congress vice-president Virendra Pokhariyal, chief spokesperson Garima Mehra Dausoni, Dehradun Mahanagar president Dr Jaswinder Gogi, councillors Komal Bora and Ehtat Khan, Robin Tyagi, Pia Thapa, Mohan Kala, Lucky Rana, Mohit Mehta, Moni, Vineet Prasad Bhatt (Bantu), Sanjay, Suleman Ansari, Surbhi Shah, Vandana Rahi, Gul Mohammad, Harsh Bagri, Abhishek Pasi and Priyanshu Gaud, among others.
