Tanakpur, October 4, 2026: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the state’s identity is deeply rooted in its rich religious and cultural heritage. The government is working to ensure that development goes hand in hand with heritage conservation while connecting Uttarakhand’s spiritual identity with modern infrastructure and facilities.

Addressing the Dussehra Mahotsav organized by the Nav Yuvak Ramlila Committee in Tanakpur on Sunday, Dhami said the ‘Adarsh Champawat’ vision aims to integrate the district’s religious faith, natural beauty, folk culture and tourism potential with modern development.
Focus on Religious Tourism and Infrastructure
Dhami said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is progressing by balancing development with the preservation of its heritage. Uttarakhand, he added, is committed to contributing to the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
He said the government is giving special emphasis to the preservation and promotion of temples, religious traditions, folk culture and the state’s cultural heritage alongside development.
Under the Adarsh Champawat initiative, several major infrastructure and tourism projects are being taken forward in Tanakpur and the surrounding areas. These include the ₹237.74-crore Tanakpur ISBT, redevelopment and beautification of Sharda Ghat, the Golju Corridor, and expansion of facilities for pilgrims in the Maa Purnagiri area.
For the convenience of pilgrims visiting Purnagiri Dham, a lighting project costing around ₹8.10 crore is being developed from Kakarali Gate towards the shrine.
Dhami said the government’s objective is to provide better facilities to pilgrims and tourists visiting Purnagiri Dham and other religious and tourist destinations across Champawat.
Push for Jobs and Self-Employment
The Chief Minister said efforts are underway to strengthen roads, transport, tourism, sports, education and healthcare in Champawat. These initiatives, he said, will improve facilities for tourists and pilgrims while creating new avenues for employment and self-employment for local youth.
Dhami Meets Athletes, Interacts with Public
During his visit, Dhami also reached the Sports Hostel Tanakpur, interacted with the athletes staying there and encouraged them to pursue their goals with hard work, discipline and regular practice.
Later, he attended the ‘Mukhyasevak Samvad’ programme at the camp office, where he interacted directly with members of the public and listened to their concerns.
Dhami said ensuring that the benefits of government schemes and development projects reach the last person in society remains a key priority.
He emphasized that Champawat’s natural beauty, religious faith, folk culture and tourism potential would be connected with modern facilities while ensuring that the dignity and character of the region’s heritage remain intact.
BJP district president Govind Samant, designated representatives Manoj Kalakoti, Hema Joshi and Kiran Devi, MLA representative Prakash Tiwari, Mahila Yuva Morcha district president Deepa Joshi, Tanakpur Municipal Board chairperson Vipin Kumar, BJP state minister Nirmal Mahra, Nagar Mandal president Sunil Punetha, District Magistrate Manish Kumar, Superintendent of Police Rekha Yadav, public representatives, officials and a large number of devotees were present at the programme.
