Dehradun, September 26, 2026: The Dehradun district administration has stepped up efforts to ensure timely and quality treatment for children suffering from rare diseases. District Magistrate Dr Ashish Chauhan is personally monitoring the identification, referral, treatment and financial assistance provided to such children under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK).
According to the district administration, 32 children suffering from rare diseases have so far been identified in Dehradun district under RBSK. Of these, 22 children are receiving treatment under the scheme, while 10 children have been identified as falling outside the scope of RBSK.
To ensure that these children are not deprived of treatment due to financial constraints, the district administration has made ₹9.60 lakh available from CSR funds to the Chief Medical Officer for their treatment.
Treatment Support Extended to 10 Children
With the support of the district administration, treatment has been provided to 10 children, including 10-year-old Umesh from Premnagar, 13-year-old Ayesha from Bairaj, 9-year-old Vanshika from Doiwala, 2-year-old Aksh from Raipur, 3-year-old Aris from Mehuwala, 15-year-old Babu and Pradeep from Manduwala, 20-year-old Ranjit from Manduwala, 5-year-old Shamshad from Doiwala and 5-year-old Divyansh from Jogiwala.
The administration said that several of these children require surgery as well as long-term medical monitoring and follow-up care.
Financial Constraints Not to Disrupt Treatment
Rare diseases often require expensive and prolonged treatment, creating significant financial pressure on families. The district administration is facilitating treatment at specialised medical institutions equipped to handle such cases.
The District Magistrate has also directed officials to provide financial assistance from the Rifle Club Fund, wherever required, in addition to CSR support, so that treatment does not stop because of a lack of financial resources.
Dr Chauhan directed officials to ensure that documentation, medical referrals, approvals and financial assistance-related formalities are completed within the prescribed timelines.
“Treatment of no child should be affected due to lack of financial resources,” the District Magistrate said.
Regular Monitoring of Cases Ordered
The District Magistrate has directed officials from the Health Department, District Programme Office and Education Department to regularly monitor the cases of all identified children and remain in contact with their families.
A detailed review was also conducted regarding the current treatment status, medical progress, referral procedures, availability of financial assistance and other arrangements related to the children’s treatment.
Dr Chauhan instructed the concerned departments to work with coordination, sensitivity and promptness to ensure that no administrative or financial hurdle affects the treatment of any child.
He also directed officials to continue the identification of children suffering from rare diseases in the district so that no eligible child is deprived of treatment and necessary support.
