Pauri Garhwal: Arunoday Times
The proposed Syalsi Lake (Barrage) Project in Bironkhal block of Pauri Garhwal has received a major push, with the e-tendering process officially commencing for the ambitious project worth ₹123.41 crore.

The project, being pursued by Cabinet Minister and Chaubattakhal MLA Satpal Maharaj, aims to transform the region through improved irrigation, drinking water supply, fisheries, boating, and tourism development.
The proposed barrage on the Eastern Nayar River will create a reservoir stretching approximately 700 metres and is expected to provide irrigation benefits to 44 hectares of agricultural land while ensuring a reliable drinking water supply to 56 villages.
Designed by IIT Roorkee, the project also includes a two-lane bridge and approach road, which will enhance connectivity between Bangar and Mangrao villages and the national highway network, improving access to healthcare, education, and emergency services.
According to Satpal Maharaj, the proposal has been sent to the state government for administrative and financial approval. While the approval process is underway, authorities have initiated e-tendering to expedite the project’s implementation.
The Syalsi Lake Project is expected to emerge as a significant catalyst for regional development, tourism promotion, water conservation, and infrastructure growth in the hill district of Pauri Garhwal.
