“Operation Night Watch” Launched in Dehradun, 71 Drunk Drivers Arrested in 2 Days
Massive night checking drive across districts; over 2,600 vehicles checked, 156 suspects detained

DEHRADUN, MARCH 26, 2026 |
Dehradun Police have launched a special अभियान “Operation Night Watch” on the निर्देश of the SSP to curb hooliganism by students and youth during night hours. The operation is being carried out across all police station areas with intensified night checking.
In the last two days, police have taken strict action against traffic violators and anti-social elements. A total of 71 persons were arrested for drunk driving, and all their vehicles were seized, including 21 four-wheelers and 50 two-wheelers.
Police also impounded 12 vehicles for violations such as illegal hooters, black-tinted windows, and rash driving. Additionally, 98 drivers were challaned under the Motor Vehicles Act.
During the अभियान, police checked over 2,600 vehicles and questioned more than 1,900 individuals. Around 288 persons found roaming unnecessarily at night were interrogated, out of which 156 suspicious individuals were taken to police stations for further verification.
Action was also taken against 99 individuals under the Police Act, with fines amounting to ₹49,500 imposed.
The SSP Dehradun has issued strict instructions that any student or youth found involved in hooliganism, unnecessary night roaming, or criminal activities will face stringent legal action. Authorities will also coordinate with educational institutions to ensure disciplinary action, including expulsion if necessary.
Police officials have been directed to identify troublemakers near colleges and universities and take firm action. The night checking drives under “Operation Night Watch” will continue in the coming days.
