Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand has taken a sudden turn, with forecasts indicating rain across several districts and snowfall in higher altitudes. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for rain and snowfall across the state until April 11.
According to the department, light to moderate rainfall is expected in the hilly districts over the next 24 hours. A fresh western disturbance is set to become active from April 7–8, which will impact weather conditions from the plains to the mountainous regions.
Meteorologist Dr. Chandra Singh Tomar stated that districts such as Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh are likely to witness rainfall, while areas above 3300 meters may receive snowfall.
A Yellow Alert has been issued for the next 24 hours, while an Orange Alert has been declared for April 8 and 9. During this period, there is a risk of hailstorms, strong winds, and lightning in several areas.
The weather shift is also expected to bring down temperatures by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, providing relief from the rising heat. However, residents have been advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
The Meteorological Department further stated that the impact of the western disturbance will continue till April 11, after which weather conditions are expected to gradually improve.
