According to the government order issued after approval from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the extended timeline will allow authorities to process pending applications submitted up to 2021 for official recognition as statehood activists. The previous deadline was July 24, 2026.
Chief Minister Dhami stated that the government remains committed to honoring and recognizing all genuine participants of the Uttarakhand statehood movement. He emphasized that the identification process is being made more transparent, inclusive, and effective to ensure that no eligible activist is left out.
Apart from extending the deadline, the Chief Minister has also approved several key development projects aimed at improving infrastructure and public facilities across the state. The sanctioned amount of ₹213 crore will be utilized for preparations related to Kumbh Mela 2027, the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, road construction projects, public infrastructure development, and initiatives to strengthen the rural economy.
Among the major approvals is ₹8.68 crore for the resurfacing and improvement of the Nalgawn–Bhatiyana motor road in Chamoli district, an important route associated with the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra.
The government has also cleared a proposal worth ₹35 crore for strengthening police and security arrangements during Kumbh Mela 2027.
Officials believe these projects will boost religious tourism, improve connectivity, enhance public infrastructure, and contribute significantly to the state’s overall development.
The twin decisions—providing additional time for the identification of statehood activists and approving major development projects—are being viewed as significant steps toward both recognizing Uttarakhand’s statehood movement contributors and accelerating development across the state.
