Arhat Bazaar Redevelopment Project Gains Momentum, All Pending Works to Be Completed by June 2026
Dehradun:Arunoday times
The Uttarakhand government’s ambitious Arhat Bazaar Redevelopment Project has received a major push, with the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) setting a strict timeline to complete all pending works by June 2026.

A high-level review meeting chaired by MDDA Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari was held on Wednesday to assess the project’s progress and expedite its implementation. Officials from various departments were directed to ensure timely completion of all remaining tasks.
Speaking at the meeting, Tiwari emphasized that the project is among Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s priority initiatives and that any delay or negligence would not be tolerated. He described the redevelopment plan as a transformative project that will redefine Dehradun’s commercial and urban landscape.
Faster Registry Process
Special attention was given to the registry process for affected properties. While most cases have already progressed, a few registries are still pending. To speed up the process, MDDA has decided to conduct special registry sessions every Wednesday and Saturday until all cases are resolved.
Officials were instructed to ensure transparency and prevent unnecessary inconvenience to affected families.
Construction Works Under Strict Monitoring
The executing agency has been directed to complete all remaining construction work by June 2026. Regular field inspections and progress reviews will be conducted to monitor quality and adherence to deadlines.
MDDA officials were also instructed to address any technical or administrative hurdles immediately to avoid delays.
Focus on Alayam Housing Scheme
The review meeting also assessed the progress of the Alayam Housing Scheme. Officials were directed to complete all remaining construction work by June and initiate the process of handing over houses to eligible beneficiaries at the earliest.
According to MDDA, timely delivery of housing benefits remains a key priority.
₹18 Crore Approved for Utility Relocation
The meeting reviewed the progress of shifting electricity lines and other utilities currently located within the redevelopment zone. Officials were directed to transfer approximately ₹18 crore, approved by the state government, to the Public Works Department to accelerate utility relocation work.
Authorities believe that once these facilities are shifted, the next phase of redevelopment can proceed much faster.
Action Against Encroachers After Compensation
During the review, officials noted that some affected individuals had already received compensation but had not yet vacated or removed their structures.
Taking a firm stance, Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari said he would personally conduct site inspections in such cases. Following verification, authorities will initiate demolition proceedings in accordance with the law if necessary.
He made it clear that no obstacles to the implementation of the project would be allowed to continue.
A New Commercial Identity for Dehradun
Once completed, the Arhat Bazaar Redevelopment Project is expected to transform the area into a modern, organized, and well-equipped commercial hub. The project aims to provide improved infrastructure for traders, enhance traffic management, and accelerate planned urban development in the state capital.
MDDA Secretary Mohan Singh Barnia said the project is being continuously monitored and that coordination among departments has been strengthened to ensure smooth implementation.
“Regular monitoring of registries, construction activities, and utility relocation works will help ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated timeline and that its benefits reach all stakeholders,” he said.
Officials believe the redevelopment project will emerge as a landmark initiative in Dehradun’s urban transformation and commercial growth
