Dehradun Overtaking Dispute Turns Deadly, Retired Brigadier Killed in Firing

Dehradun witnessed a shocking incident on Monday morning when a minor overtaking dispute escalated into violence, resulting in the death of a retired Army Brigadier who was out on a morning walk.
*What Happened?*
According to police, the incident occurred around 6:50 AM near the Malsi area on Mussoorie Road. A dispute broke out between occupants of two vehicles over overtaking. The argument soon turned violent.
It is alleged that occupants of a Scorpio vehicle opened fire at a Fortuner car in an attempt to stop it by targeting its tyres.
**Innocent Bystander Shot Dead**
During the firing, a 70-year-old retired Brigadier, **V.K. Joshi**, who was on a morning walk nearby, was accidentally hit by a bullet. He was immediately rushed to the hospital by locals but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
**Assault and Vehicle Damage*
Amid the chaos, the Fortuner lost control and crashed into a tree near a government primary school in Johri village. The accused then allegedly assaulted the occupants of the Fortuner and vandalized the vehicle. Two people in the car sustained injuries.
**Accused Absconding, Police Launch Hunt**
After carrying out the attack, the accused fled the scene. Police have imposed a district-wide alert and are conducting intensive checking of suspicious vehicles. CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is being scanned to identify the culprits.

Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Dobhal said:
> “An incident of firing linked to an overtaking dispute has been reported near Johri village. Police have spoken to the injured and eyewitnesses. It is an unfortunate incident in which an innocent person lost his life. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused at the earliest.”
