Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday flagged off the ‘Run for Kargil Heroes’ marathon at Shaurya Sthal, Chidbagh, Garhi Cantt, Dehradun, on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Before the flag-off, the Chief Minister laid a wreath at the Shaurya Sthal and paid heartfelt tributes to the martyrs, honouring their supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Addressing the gathering, CM Dhami said Kargil Vijay Diwas symbolises the unmatched courage, valour and unwavering dedication of the Indian Armed Forces towards the nation. He recalled that during the 1999 Kargil War, Indian soldiers displayed extraordinary bravery under extremely challenging conditions and successfully defended the country’s sovereignty.
The Chief Minister stated that the nation would always remain indebted to its brave soldiers and martyrs for their sacrifices. He added that Uttarakhand is known as the “Land of Bravehearts”, with many soldiers from the state making the ultimate sacrifice in the Kargil War and other military operations, bringing pride to the nation.
Reiterating the state government’s commitment to the welfare of serving soldiers, ex-servicemen and their families, CM Dhami said every effort is being made to safeguard their interests and ensure they receive the respect they deserve.
He also urged the youth to draw inspiration from the courage and patriotism of the martyrs and actively contribute to nation-building while upholding the country’s unity, integrity and security.
