Dehradun has got a new District Magistrate as IAS officer Dr. Ashish Chauhan officially took charge on Monday. Former DM Savin Bansal has been transferred to the Secretariat. Savin Bansal is being remembered for his people-friendly initiatives and sensitive administrative style. Officials, employees, and citizens gave him an emotional farewell after the transfer orders were issued.

During Savin Bansal’s tenure, initiatives like ‘Nanda-Sunanda’ gained significant attention. His efforts towards girls’ education, rehabilitation of children involved in begging and rag-picking, public grievance hearings, and quick complaint redressal earned him the image of a “People’s Administrator.”
Now, Dehradun’s administration will be led by 2012-batch IAS officer Dr. Ashish Chauhan, who is known for his technology-driven and public-oriented working style. Soon after assuming charge, he inspected the treasury office and emphasized proper record management along with digital verification of pensioners.
The newly appointed DM stated that ensuring transparent and timely delivery of government welfare schemes to the public will be his top priority. Strengthening Char Dham Yatra management, disaster management, and speeding up development projects will also remain key focus areas.
Before Dehradun, Dr. Ashish Chauhan served as DM in challenging districts like Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, and Pauri. In Pauri, his ‘Safe Safar App’ emerged as an innovative initiative for road safety. Similarly, the ‘Kavya App’ helped monitor high-risk pregnancies, contributing to efforts aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in hilly regions.
He has also been appreciated for his work in tourism and cultural development. The upcoming ‘Trishul Park’ near Himalaya Darshan site in Pauri is considered a reflection of his visionary approach.
With Dr. Ashish Chauhan now leading Dehradun, people are expecting transparent, technology-driven, and sensitive governance in the district administration.
