Dehradun Administration Extends Lifeline to Cancer Patient’s Family, Waives ₹71,000 Loan
Dehradun: Arunoday Times
In a significant humanitarian gesture, the Dehradun district administration has provided major relief to a financially distressed family battling cancer. The administration waived a loan of ₹71,000 and also extended additional financial assistance of ₹50,000 to support the family’s survival and treatment expenses.

The beneficiary, Sandhya Ramola, a resident of the remote Maldevta village in Raipur block, approached District Magistrate Savin Bansal with a plea for help. She informed the administration that her husband is suffering from throat cancer and is undergoing treatment at Himalayan Hospital. Due to continuous chemotherapy and deteriorating health, he has become unable to work, pushing the family into severe financial crisis.

Sandhya stated that she had taken loans in 2024 and 2025 for self-employment and household needs, but mounting medical expenses made it impossible to repay the installments. The outstanding amount had risen to nearly ₹71,000, and repeated notices from the bank and pressure from recovery agents had left the family under immense mental stress. The couple also has two young children aged around three and six years.
Taking a compassionate view of the matter, District Magistrate Savin Bansal directed officials to clear the entire outstanding loan amount through the district administration’s CSR fund. Instructions were also issued to the concerned bank to provide a No Dues Certificate to the family.
In addition, financial assistance of ₹50,000 was transferred directly into Sandhya Ramola’s bank account through the Rifle Club fund via DBT mode.
DM Savin Bansal said that under the directions of the Chief Minister, helping needy and distressed families remains the administration’s top priority. He added that if any deserving citizen is deprived of government welfare benefits or faces an emergency crisis, the district administration will ensure timely support.
The district administration has been continuously assisting economically weaker families, critically ill patients, destitute women, and differently-abled persons through various welfare initiatives and special funds.
