Huge Rush at Public Hearing Camp as Administration Takes Swift Action on 201 Complaints

Dehradun: Arunoday Times
A large number of people reached the public hearing camp organized at the Dehradun Collectorate on Monday, where 201 complaints related to land disputes, encroachment, harassment, electricity safety, financial assistance, social security, and school fee waivers were registered. Acting on the directions of District Magistrate Savin Bansal, the public hearing was conducted under the chairmanship of Joint Magistrate Rahul Anand. Most complaints were resolved on the spot, while the remaining cases were forwarded to concerned departments with instructions for immediate action.

Several elderly citizens approached the administration with complaints of family harassment and property disputes. Ailing senior citizen Ghanshyam Bhandari accused his elder son of attempting to Capture his shop and property, while 80-year-old cancer patient Kismat Singh alleged that his daughter and son-in-law fraudulently transferred his land and house in their names and later forced him out of his home. The administration directed the District Legal Services Authority to initiate immediate legal action in both cases.
In another case, 61-year-old widow Munni Devi from Aamwala accused her son and daughter-in-law of assault and harassment. The SDM was instructed to register proceedings under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act. Another elderly woman, Godambari Devi, sought financial support and demanded half of her retired husband’s pension for medical treatment and livelihood.
Issues related to high-tension electricity lines also figured prominently during the hearing. Villagers from Khala raised concerns over tilted electricity poles caused by heavy rainfall and landslides, prompting directions to the power department and municipal corporation for immediate safety measures. Similarly, a high-tension line passing just above a government primary school in Kidduwala was termed a serious threat to students’ safety, and UPCL was directed to take urgent corrective action.
Complaints regarding waterlogging in Jwalpa Enclave, agricultural land erosion in Bhogpur, illegal encroachments in Sorna and Rudrapur villages, and blockage of irrigation canals in Majri were also taken up, with officials instructed to ensure speedy resolution.
Several residents also sought financial assistance for children’s education, marriage expenses, house repairs, and school fee waivers. The administration directed concerned departments to investigate the cases and submit reports at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the administration adopted a strict stance over the absence of officials from the Municipal Corporation, Animal Husbandry Department, Police Department, and Forest Department during the public hearing and sought explanations from the concerned officers.
